1874

A brand is born!

Bustling Chicago is home to the very first Marcelle toiletries, manufactured by C.W. Beggs Sons & Co. Beggs believed that science could help merge beauty and health.

1910

It's official!

The Marcelle brand name is legally trademarked.

1919

Gaining ground

Marcelle face powder and lipsticks are widely available in American apothecaries.

1933

Pioneering hypoallergenic products

Dr. Phil Blazer, an allergist by trade, acquires Marcelle during the economic changes of the Great Depression in Chicago. Marcelle becomes a North American pioneer of hypoallergenicity.

New favorites hit the scene

Marcelle’s hypoallergenic and fragrance-free Moisture Cream, Night Cream and Cold Cream (now Cleansing Cream) are formulated. These skincare pillars are still manufactured and loved today!

1949

A Canadian debut

Pharmacist Victor Cape is the first to distribute Marcelle products to Canadian women from coast to coast.

1957

Changing hands

Dr. Phil Blazer sells the manufacturing and U.S. distribution rights to American consumer goods giant Borden, Inc.

1970's

Progress in packaging

Marcelle continues to advance its products and packaging.

1973

Marcelle becomes Canadian!

Montreal-based pharmacist Victor Cape and his son Michael buy the worldwide distribution and manufacturing rights of Marcelle products. Their company, Professional Pharmaceutical Corporation, opens the Marcelle head office in Montreal.

A new face

American-born model and actor Veronica Hamel becomes the first Marcelle spokesperson. Hamel starred in the 1976 film Cannonball, later gracing the small screen for her roles on hit TV series Hill Street Blues and Lost.

1988

Beloved debut

Marcelle launches its first tinted cream, Sheer Tint Fluid Moisturizer. It has remained one of the company’s top-selling tinted moisturizers for decades.

1999

Eye-friendly icon

Marcelle unveils Gentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes, which becomes a top drugstore seller and instant classic.

2003

Turning back time

Marcelle turns its skin care expertise to its premier anti-aging line, NewAge, a complete skin care routine formulated with revolutionary wrinkle-reducing peptides.

2012

The first Canadian in BB innovation

Marcelle takes Canada by storm with the launch of a multi-tasking wonder - the first BB Cream designed specifically for Canadian women.

2013

Brand ambassador

Québec-born Karine Vanasse, actor and producer, becomes the new face of the brand. Vanasse’s rising star has included roles on hit shows like Revenge, Blue Moon, Cardinal and more.

New recognition sets the brand ahead

Marcelle is the first on the Canadian market to introduce products recognized by the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) as part of the Skin Health Program.

Pushing BB Cream boundaries

Marcelle innovates yet again with new CC SPF 35 and DD SPF 25 creams.

2015

More than just mascara

Marcelle is the first colour cosmetics brand recognized by the CDA Skin Health Program for its gentle mascaras.

2016

Better with thyme

Marcelle launches the Marcelle for Thyme Maternity line to focus on the specific skin care needs of pregnant women.

2017

Mascara Momentum

For a 4th consecutive year, Marcelle wins the ELLE Canada and ELLE Québec Beauty Grand Prix in the best mascara under $15 category. Marcelle comes back in 2019 and wins again with Xtension Plus+ ProLash Mascara.

Skin care with personality

Marcelle launches Revival+ Skin Renewal. Enriched with chicory root extract, this advanced anti-aging line promotes skin renewal and regeneration, revealing visibly radiant skin with a beautiful, youthful glow day after day.

The line features famous Canadian designer and TV personality Sarah Richardson as its new ambassador.

2018

85th anniversary

Marcelle celebrates 85 years of offering hypoallergenic and fragrance-free products.

2019

Raising the CDA bar yet again

With 50 skin care and colour cosmetic products recognized by the Canadian Dermatology Association Skin Health Program, Marcelle is the most certified brand in Canada.
