  • Ending 2012 beautifully!

Posted on 23/12/2012 by Melanie F

Here is an article to end the year in BEAUTY and prep for the new year that will be here very soon!

Is there a better way to say goodye to 2012 than by looking back on it? What a year has it been with all its weather changes! How were our beauty assets dealing with all the bad weather? Were they able to overcome the sudden changes? What did you do to protect them? Don't worry, it is not too late! Here are a few last minute tips so you can be at your best in these festive times of the year!

If you were too busy with the latest preparations these last few weeks, head over to your vanity, grab your mirror, and follow these simple steps for a quick beauty makeover in order to show your best self!

    Priority goes to skincare!
Start with a gentle exfoliant designed for the face, neck and décollé - the latter is on show more than usual with evening dresses, so don't forget it! Remember to always proceed with care when using exfoliants in order to not irritate your skin. Do not apply too much pressure and use a small quantity of product to achieve great results. Massage your face, neck and décollé in circular movements while using lots of water to ensure a smooth action. When your skin has been rinsed and delicately dried, apply a face mask or treat your skin to an imbibition. What is an imbibition, you ask? Simply apply your favorite face cream in thicker layers than usual without massaging it into the skin, then let it sit on your face, neck and décolleté and relax! After ten or fifteen minutes, rinse off the mask or the layers of cream and apply your usual moisturizer, coupled with your serum. Keep in mind that a small quantity of eye cream will rejuvenate your expression!

    Grab your brushes and colors!
Start with the complexion:  correctors, concealers, BB Creams and/or foundations are your first allies. Then, choose a loose or pressed powder and use it lightly on your face and décolleté to ensure a good base for the eye shadows. Eyebrows are still trending this season so ensure to properly fill them in. For the rest of your make-up, enhance your eyes or your lips, but not both! For example, if your lipstick is very dark, avoid a very heavy eye make-up. You can still line the rim of your eyes with your favorite liner and liven up your lashes with a mascara of your choice, applied more heavily than usual for a perfect evening look.

Also enjoy metallic liners and shimmery creams this holiday season for a festive, chic and glamourous effect!

Now, you only have to slip in your Holiday outfit and let the night begin!

Sneak peek on the theme of the next beauty article in January: new year, new products? When and how to clean up our beauty products?

  • Marcelle introduces its first BB Cream!

    Posted on 17/01/2012 by isabelp

BB Cream is the talk of the town!

The ancestor of BB Cream was formulated by a German dermatologist and was first used in the medical field as a preparation base for foundation to help cover scars and blemishes. After adapting the formulation to better answer the needs of the cosmetic industry and make-up wearers, making it a multi-benefit skin care and complexion corrector all-in-one, the BB cream concept took South Korea by storm in 2007! Men and women celebrities alike used it to flaunt flawless skin. By 2010, the Asian continent had been revolutionized by BB creams. Marcelle® proudly introduces the first Canadian-made BB Cream formulated specially for Canadian women.

    What’s a BB?
Moisturizing skin care, tinted corrector and make-up base all in one, Marcelle® “BB” stands for Beauty Balm, as it truly enhances your natural beauty. It does it all for you, instantly!

    BREAKTHROUGH INNOVATION
Inspired by a trend that perfected skin and enhanced complexions all over Asia, Marcelle® formulated its own BB Cream to cater the needs of Canadian consumers. This multi-purpose skin care cream is more than a tinted moisturizer or simple make-up base. It perfects the skin to reveal a more even epidermis and well-hydrated, flawless complexion, all in one. Ideal for any age and any skin type, the Marcelle® BB Cream comes in two shades and is suitable for a wide variety of carnations thanks to its self-adjusting pigments that transform and adapt to skin tone.

  • Double chin begone - with a little help from Ariel!

    Posted on 13/12/2011 by Lisamarie

Have you ever stopped to consider the pure magic that makeup is? It can make you look healthy when you are sick as a dog, it can give you cheekbones where none existed before, it can make you look vampy, trampy, angelic or just plain hot! It can even get rid of things that nature "blessed" you with that you would rather see gone! One of the easiest fixes involves a brush, some bronzer and a quick goodbye to your unwanted double chin!

My talented friend Ariel will now take you through the steps to saying sayonara to that unwanted hitchhiker!

  • Eyebrow shaping: a guide to beautiful brows

    Posted on 05/07/2011 by Ariel

Misunderstood, and too often neglected, the eyebrows consistently do not get the attention they deserve. First and foremost, grooming our eyebrows appears to be a time consuming and often painful procedure; is it worth all the tweezing and plucking? The quick answer is ‘yes’, absolutely! If done correctly and often, taking care of our eyebrows can be relatively quick and painless!

The eyebrows play an important part in the over-all appearance of our face. They add definition to the eyes, a frame that can make our eyes appear more open, bigger as well as larger. The shape of our eyebrows also adds personality to our overall image; you can achieve a natural yet sophisticated look to a look of disdain (too thin, too arched) or (shudder) an unkempt, bushy, wild look! So, I’m guessing most of you would like to go with a natural yet sophisticated look that really enhances both the eyes and the face. Make-up artists call this the ‘ideal’ eyebrow shape.

Here’s how it works. The eyebrow is made up of three distinct parts:
    A- The Inclination
    B- Apex
    C- Tail

    Eyebrow shaping

As you can see from the illustration above, it shows you where the beginning (A- inclination), middle (B- apex) and end (C- tail) of your eyebrow should be.

The inclination is the thickest part of the brow and should start at the tear duct. The apex is the highest point of the arch and should be about two thirds outwards from your starting point (align it with the outer edge of your iris) and the tail is the slope down to the outer corners of your eyes.

Now, before you begin getting your eyebrows in shape – here are the three essential tools you will need: tweezers, manicure scissors and an eyebrow comb/brush.

There are 3 different kinds of tweezers:
    1) Pointed tip: for short or ingrown hairs
    2) Slanted tip: this is my first choice when using tweezers as it has the best grip and control.
    3) Square tip: for coarse hair, it pulls out many hairs at once.

First using your eyebrow brush, sweep half the eyebrow hair upwards (the inclination) and the other half (the tail) downwards, trim the excess that goes beyond the natural hair line using your manicure scissors. This alone makes your eyebrows look clean and neat.

Always remember to err on the side of caution; you never want to take off too much hair in case it creates gaps when you brush the hair back down.

Second, start plucking! Pull the skin tight as this will lessen any discomfort. Always pull starting at the root, and in the direction of the hair growth.

    A couple of pointers:

  • The best time to tweeze your brows is right after you’ve taken a shower. Your pores are more open, so there is little discomfort.
  • Try not to over pluck - always follow the natural shape of your eyebrow.
  • If you should end up with gaps either from trimming or tweezing, no worries! You can fix the situation by filling the gaps with an eyebrow pencil and then blending in the color.
  • Use an eyebrow pencil to define your eyebrows; this will enhance the impact of your eyes – a must for evenings out.
  • When choosing an eyebrow pencil color, your best bet is to complement your hair color.
  • The Marcelle Accent Eyebrow Crayon comes with a small round brush attached that you can use to diffuse and blend eyebrow pencil color.

Well groomed and shaped eyebrows will enhance not only your eyes, but your entire face. The converse is also true; no amount of expensive make-up can hide the impact of neglected and over-run eyebrows. And the best part of this is, the more consistent you are in maintaining your beautiful brow, the easier and faster the routine becomes!
