Just in time for Halloween: A Cruella de Vil look

I wanted to bring you a look today that would be appropriate for a Halloween office party -- something that doesn’t focus in on (a) your cleavage, (b) your legs, or (c) the fact that you, too, watch that Jersey… Shore… thing. (I can’t be the only one who’s sick of “sexy” Halloween costumes, can I?)

The first thing that came to mind were the classics. I decided to go with Cruella de Vil... but because showing up with a lidful of green eye shadow isn’t always the best idea, I made some major modifications. Instead of the aforementioned green shadow of the original, cartoon Cruella, I went with the nude eye shadow shadow from the non-cartoon remake, and added green winged liner as a throwback to the good ‘ol original. The lips, of course, are red red red!

The best part about this look, if you ask me, isn’t that it’s fast (fast enough to put on during your coffee break). Even better, it’s wearable -- they’re definitely products that you can pick up now, for Halloween, but keep in your makeup collection and wear all year ‘round.

Product swatches from L-->R: Ivory Beige foundation, Tiramisu eye duo, Opal mineral eye shadow, Power Volume mascara, Metal Green Waterproof Eyeliner, Jade LUX eyeliner, Metal Green + Jade, Vintage Red lipstick, Suntan pressed powder.

If you’re starting with a bare face…

Cleanse, tone, and moisturize first! (I’m hooked on the Marcelle Essentials Cleansing Water for the first two). Give your moisturizer a few minutes to sink in, then apply foundation. Because I wanted a really modern, day-appropriate take on Cruella, I went with Marcelle True Radiance foundation in Ivory Beige for an even, natural-looking base. I set this with Marcelle Pressed Powder in Translucent, then contoured my cheekbones using a slanted blush brush and Marcelle Pressed Powder in Suntan.

If you’re only getting one of these, I'd recommend: the Translucent Pressed Powder. I love its flawless, photo-ready finish!

For just the eyes…
If you want to be done in ten minutes, the eyes better darn well be easy! (Don’t worry; they totally are.) Take the lighter shade of the Marcelle Wet & Dry Eye Shadow Duo in Tiramisu all over the lid, then just buff a touch of the darker shade into your crease and through your outer V. Brighten your inner corner with a bit of Marcelle Minerals Eye Shadow in Opal.

For the green wing, line your top lashes with Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Metal Green, then top with LUX Metallic Liquid Eyeliner in Jade. I love how the two look together, so I went with both, but feel free to use just one! Finish your eyes with a quick coat of Marcelle Power Volume Mascara in Black.

If you’re only getting one of these, I'd recommend: the Jade LUX liner is one of my favourites, but I’d have to say the Metal Green Waterproof Eyeliner -- it would probably be more versatile for future use.

And then the lips…
A single coat of Marcelle Rouge Vitality in Vintage Red will do it! I didn’t line my lips or add anything overtop, and they wore without fading until I took them off three hours later. For all of the eating, drinking, and chatting that you may be doing, though, you may want to line yours just in case!

That’s it: in only ten minutes, you have a subtle Cruella throwback look. Pair with polka dots (and a wig if you have one) and you’re good to go!

Tips on using these products for everyday looks:

  • Wear the LUX Metallic eyeliners on their own or layered overtop other liners (as I did here) to add a bit of glam to any eye look.
  • Keep your Vintage Red on-hand for the Holidays! It makes an awesome red "statement lip," or a subtle red stain (just apply, leave it on for a few minutes, and blot off most of the product onto a tissue).
  • Use Suntan to fake a subtle tan over the next few months, or as an all-over powder next summer to compliment an actual tan.

...I don't have a wig to call my own. All I had was Photoshop and five minutes :(

@makeup morsels: Haha, thanks hon! And as for the lips -- no lipliner, sealant layer, anything! SO in love with Vintage Red. It's pretty much my student's-budget RA Laque :P
