2008-2009 SEASON

JENN FINISHES THE SEASON WITH 2 MORE GOLD MEDALS!

March 29, 2009, Cypress Mountain, B.C. – Jenn claimed her title as Queen of the bumps at the Canada Post National Freestyle Championships on Cypress Mountain. Jenn won both the single moguls event on Friday and Sunday's dual moguls for her 10th senior national titles in a victory-studded career.

The 2006 Olympic champion, who now has six single moguls and four dual-moguls national titles to her credit, tried to focus on speed for all four of her duals. “Overall, I’m really happy with my day,” said Heil, 25. “I wanted to use every run to go my maximum, and I did.”

“It’s a really good step in the right direction,” added Jenn, who felt a missing component this season was her speed. “My goal was to push today. I was trying to get closer and closer to Alex’s times,” she said, referring to team-mate Alex Bilodeau of Rosemère, Que., who was the favourite in the men’s dual moguls.

At this year’s World Championships, Jenn was the silver medalist in single moguls.

SECOND PLACE FOR JENN HEIL AND ANOTHER PODIUM SWEEP BY CANADIAN MEN IN ARE, SWEDEN

February 13-14, 2009, ARE, Sweden – The Canadian World Cup freestyle ski team dominated the podium once again at the World Cup. Alex Bilodeau led another men’s sweep for the moguls medals and Jenn Heil received a silver medal in the women’s final.

After placing second, Jenn added: “It’s motivating, but it’s a good position to know you can continue to get better.” With her silver medal, Jenn moved a closer second to overall moguls leader Hannah Kearney of the U.S. who was fourth in Friday’s final. Jenn is in contention for her fifth overall World Cup women’s mogul title.
On Saturday’s dual moguls race, Jenn finished ninth after missing her top jump in the qualifying round.

On the men’s side, it was the second time this season, and in freestyle ski history, that Canadian men have swept the podium in World Cup mogul competition. The same three skiers swept the podium last month at Ski Mont Gabriel where Vincent Marquis led the charge.

Alex Bilodeau went on to capture the gold medal in dual moguls, the first World Cup dual moguls victory of his career.

ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL FOR JENNIFER HEIL

February 7, 2009, Cypress, Canada - Jennifer Heil delivered another brilliant performance and captured gold at the World Cup competition at Cypress Mountain, site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games freestyle events. This is Jenn's second victory and fourth medal in five World Cup races this season.

"For sure this was my best performance this season," said Heil, the reigning Olympic champion. "The course, the weather and the crowd made it all perfect. The highlight for me was the quality of my skiing. I was more aggressive and I felt my technique becoming more automatic. I could feel the smoothness and the ease in my skiing."

In men's moguls, Bilodeau earned his first World Cup victory since February 2006. He had opened the season with three silver medals.

Overall, it was a phenomenally successful weekend for Canada’s freestyle team in front of a Canadian crowd at the 2010 Olympic venue. Canada ended the three-day competition with a remarkable five gold medals, two silver and a bronze.

JENNIFER HEIL WINS THE GOLD MEDAL IN DEER VALLEY

January 31, 2009, Deer Valley, USA - Olympic champion Jennifer Heil won the gold medal Saturday night in women’s dual moguls at the Deer Valley Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Utah. This was Jennifer's first victory this season and third medal in four World Cup events.

This win came as great news after Jennifer experienced what she described as the worst crash of her career on Thursday, January 29, where she finished in 16th place in the individual moguls events.

“This was a great way to bounce back from a crash that had left me pretty shaken up and sore,” said Heil, also first in qualifying. “My goal today was come out and enjoy my skiing and be 100 per cent focused on my technique. With the great crowd here and the wonderful conditions it was easy for me to get immersed into that and not be hesitant during my runs.”

A REMARKABLE RETURN

December 19 - After 20 months away from the World Cup circuit, Jennifer returned to competition December 18 in Meribel, France and won the silver medal.

“Getting back in that starting gate I realized how much I missed the thrill of competition”, confided Jennifer. “I felt amazing and I’m so happy with my result. There’s so much more I know I can do but today was a chance to show that I was back and contending.”

The four-time overall World Cup champion provides a simple explanation for loss to American rival Hannah Kearney.

“I came off the top jump and I just didn’t have total control and went off course a bit. I couldn’t make up for that. Still 20 months is a really long time and it was a big challenge to get back into the competitive environment.”
